1. Which One to go For?
As with most products, generally the more you spend the better the solution.
The more expensive radar detectors will give more notice, be more accurate in detecting
speed cameras and give fewer false alarms. The GPS based systems, due to the technology used,
will be more expensive and won’t display false alarms – although they won’t pick up temporary
cameras. Therefore, a combined GPS and radar detector will offer the best protection. The
Micro RoadPilot
with Radar would be our choice.
2. Do I Need to Get it Fitted?
All units require power and are supplied with a cigar lighter connection so you can
simply plug in and go. For a neater fit, we recommend you contact your local car alarm
specialist, or similar, and they will install your unit into your ignition or radio power
supply and hide most wiring. As a guide, allow £50 for professional installation.
3. Are They Legal?
Yes. Contrary to popular belief, all speed camera detection systems are 100% legal.
4. Do I Need an External Antenna?
Some vehicles may have a heated or reflective windscreen which can affect the performance
of a GPS product. If this is the case, we recommend you install an external antenna for your
GPS device. Some customers, even without a heated or reflective windscreen, choose to also
install the external antenna for excellent satellite reception. Please note, the Micro
RoadPilot comes as standard with an external antenna.
5. What Guarantee do I Get?
All products come with a minimum 12 month warranty, many are 24 months. In addition to this,
we offer our own unique guarantee.
6. Will the Unit Work Across Europe?
This depends on the product and manufacturer. Also, the legality of your system will depend
on the specific country. For example, speed camera detection systems are currently illegal
to use in France and Belgium.
7. Can I Transfer My Unit From Car to Car?
Yes, simply detach and plug in to another vehicle using the cigar lighter as a power source.
8. Where Will the Unit Sit in My Car?
Most units either attach to your dashboard using Velcro strips or to your windscreen
using suction pads.
